Brother to Brother

*Scholars claim there are 6 main themes of the HR (racial identification, pride, determination to fight against oppression, anger at racism, desire to reconstruct the meaning of "negro;" and negro heritage and history). The film "Brother to Brother" is contemporary and therefore ~ 75 years after the HR. Which themes do you still see present in the black community, as illustrated by the movie? Please find multiple examples to explain the theme(s) that you identified in the movie.*

In the film "Brother to Brother there were many HR themes that were continually getting brought up in the movie. Some of which still seem to be present the black community today as well.  Anger at racism is one of the HR themes found in the film and is also one theme found inn the community today. "This anger you feel towards white people is the same anger brothers feel towards me for being gay"; this quote was found in the film when Perry was talking to his friend after his friend mad a rude remark towards white people, today there are many people that have strong anger towards whites and gays.

But since people are more open to begin gay then they were during the Harlem Renaissance, people are beginning to recognize that this is the 21st century and gays are every where, so all you can do is deal with it. "If we and now i mean the reverently conscious whites and reverently conscious blacks do not falter in or duty we may be able the handful that we are, to end the racial nightmare and achieve or country and change the history of the world if we do not do everything the fulfillment of that prophecy recreate from the bible and the song write of shame is upon us ,God gave know other sign ,no more water but fire next time". This quote was also from the film,it represents racial identification. Racial discrimination is also something you see alot in the black community, many times in an all black community with limits on other races, the other races are talked about and bullyed. Instead of every one in the neighborhood hanging out and getting along, the other races isolate them selves and make it so it's only them in there little group.

Pride is something that gets brought up alot in the film "Brother to Brother" and in black neighborhoods, even though there prides is different in some way,it's quit the same. In the film, the young poets show pride in what they do when they try to protest and let people know that being the way they wont to be and writing the way they wont to write is fine. As long as its okay with them, in the black community the same rules apply, but it's so what more modern. Instead of protesting for something that actually is a big deal, people yell and shout and rep there city and have arguments about which said can do more than the other,or is better than the other.

Even though it was so long ago, the Harlem Renaissance did have an effect on black community's every where today, and even if it is slightly different or not all how it's suppose to be. Either way it made an impact on many people and the HR made it so that people can express there selves in any way possible that they wont to. Even though some people today still have trouble excepting other's life styles, it's still good to know that things are changing and you have many more people then before supporting you even when your closest friend isn't. In conclusion, "Brother to Brother" was a great movie and i recommend it to any one that is homosexual or just gets harassed because there life style is what some would call different. It can really help you out, and see that it's not about you making ever one else happy, it's about you making yourself happy.
